Front end developer

Our consumer-focused Digital Marketing Services Team is responsible for building and maintaining customer facing websites and administrative tools for our clients with the latest tools and frameworks that optimize performance and development efficiency. We're looking for an experienced Front-End Developer who combines the art of design with the art of programming to bring the right balance to the end result.  You'll help bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation and play an active role on both sides of the conversation defining how sites look as well as how they work.

You'll be responsible for everything from translating UI/UX design wireframes into performant working code that produces the visual elements of our sites. This person will focus heavily on abstracting our code and improving reusability as we continue building out the component libraries we need to be ready to scale, work across other platforms and add new "in trip" products for travelers in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in evaluating new functionality requests on a value scale for the business
• Work with your team to scope, develop, test and deliver complex, scalable front-end components and user-facing features
• Build reusable code and libraries for future use
• Ensure technical feasibility and SEO optimization of UI/UX designs
• Optimize our applications for maximum speed and scalability for both desktop and mobile
• Assure all user input is validated before it's submitted to the back-end
• Ensure work is delivered on schedule and keep stakeholders informed of the project’s progress.
• Explore and recommend current trends, techniques and technologies that could have a positive impact on your work
• Create and maintain project documentation in Confluence

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or multi-year college program
• 5+ years’ experience building complex applications using MVC frameworks, including ASP.NET, Laravel, Angular, or Vue.js on Microsoft .NET and LAMP technology stacks
• 5+ years' experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, SCSS and CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap or Tailwind
• Strong understanding and experience using code versioning tools, such as Git / GitHub
• Strong client-side scripting with JavaScript and jQuery
• Strong prototyping skills with Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD
• Ability to translate UX mock-ups into responsive interfaces that work seamlessly across desktop, mobile and tablet
• Practical experience with Nodejs and Typescript
• Solid understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
• Deep understand of component-based design
• Good understanding of SEO principles and how to ensure applications adhere to them
• Understanding of Agile development methodologies, practical experience with Jira Software an asset
• High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
• Superior time management, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet set timelines minimal supervision.

Microsoft stack

Our Microsoft web-based platforms utilize modern JavaScript frameworks such as Blazor, Angular (mostly) and React (legacy) over a Microsoft .NET Core MVC application base. We implement RESTful WebAPIs to interact with our relational database systems (such as SQL Server) using the Entity Framework. Additionally, our custom-built APIs also reach into our CMS and caching middleware.  Other technologies we work with include SOLR, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, MongoDB, Couchbase, Docker, Cloudinary, GraphQL, Ingenico, AJAX, HTML5 and Bootstrap.

LAMP stack

Our LAMP web-based platforms utilize the following tools and applications: Composer for dependency management, Blade for the templating engine, Artisan for the command-line interface (CLI), Forge for deploying Laravel applications AWS. Other technologies we work with include Docker, Cloudinary, XML/XPath, HTML5, Bootstrap, and Postman for designing, building, testing, and documenting custom-built APIs.

We use Visual Studio and PhpStorm IDEs for development.
